ENFORCEMENT: AKIRS PARTNERS FRSC ON VEHICLE PARTICULARS, REGISTRATION

The Akwa Ibom State Internal Revenue Service, AKIRS is set for a joint enforcement campaign with the Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, targeting illegal vehicle particulars, registration and driving against traffic in Akwa Ibom State.
The Executive Chairman, Akwa Ibom State Internal Revenue Service, Sir Okon Okon, made this known on Tuesday, September 17, during a courtesy visit by the new sector commander, FRSC, Akwa Ibom State Command, Corps Commander Edward Odiete, at Revenue House, Uyo.

Sir Okon, who emphasized the importance of regulating illegal vehicle particulars and registration, noted that the collaboration with FRSC will reduce traffic-related offenses and enhance security within the state. He said the joint enforcement would help clear the backlog of unclaimed driver’s licenses and eradicate fake licenses and vehicle registration documents, reinforcing security against traffic-related offenses.
"We are working on re-energizing our enforcement activities. If we enforce regulations effectively, the backlog of driver's licenses that have not been cleared will be addressed. Additionally, the prevalent issue of fake licenses will be eliminated. We must tackle fake licenses and vehicle registration documents to reinforce security against traffic-related offenses.".

"It’s not so much about revenue; revenue is secondary, although we do need it. The focus is on the security of the state. If people don’t have the right licenses and documents, you cannot track the vehicle if anything happens," Sir Okon noted.
The AKIRS Chairman appealed to the Sector Commander to prioritize the implementation of procedures that will accelerate the collection process for driver’s licenses and vehicle plate numbers, as it would improve customer satisfaction and operational efficiency.

In his remarks, the new Sector Commander, FRSC, Akwa Ibom State Command, Edward Odiete, stated that his visit to AKIRS aims to establish a collaborative approach to improve road traffic management in the state, adding that an awareness campaign to educate the public on the importance of adhering to traffic rules is underway.

The sector commander, FRSC, however, called for collaboration with AKIRS to enforce the validation of driver’s licenses, valid vehicle particulars, and also address the issue of driving against traffic. This partnership, he noted, will enhance road safety and ensure compliance with traffic regulations.

Corps Commander Edward Odiete replaces Lasisi Ogundele, who retired after his years of service to the nation.
